Link controller sets FireWire
San Jose, Calif. - An IEEE 1394 (FireWire)
link controller from Initio Corp. is said to deliver data rates in excess of
40 Mbytes/s for UDMA 66 and ATAPI disk, tape, CD/RW, DVD and RAID peripheral
designs.
The INIC-1420 integrates a 1394 core with
UDMA 66 and ATAPI interfaces in a single chip. Serial Bus
Protocol-2-compliant firmware is stored in an external flash ROM that
operates independently of the host. The firmware is said to hasten
time-to-market. "With the INIC-1420, FireWire drives can meet the
bandwidth requirement for which the interface was designed," said Eric
Wilson, Initio's director of business development. Samples are available now.
The part is available in a 100-pin low-profile quad flat pack and is priced
at $9 in quantities of 10,000 or more.
