INITIO CORP. ANNOUNCES NEW ROUND OF FUNDING

New Funding To Fuel Growth in Ultra320 SCSI, IEEE 1394

SAN JOSE, Calif. March 7, 2002 Initio Corp., a leading maker of input/output (I/O) solutions for storage systems and peripherals, today announced the completion of a new round of private funding.  The company plans to apply the funding to accelerate Initio® Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) and IEEE 1394 ("FireWire") product development. "Initio has become a leader in I/O, with a rich legacy in SCSI and 1394 solutions used in a broad range of computer, networking and consumer applications worldwide," said Chris Chen, chief operating officer at Initio.  "This new round of funding validates Initio's market success and its prospects for further growth." With this new round of funding, Initio will bolster its ASIC research and development on SCSI -- including the emerging Ultra320 SCSI (320MB/sec) interface -- and new IEEE 1394 devices.  Ultra320 SCSI is seen by industry analysts as the optimal interface for storage area networking (SAN) applications.  Industry analysts also have estimated that the IEEE 1394 interface will be included in 112 million computers and peripherals by 2004.

History of Leadership, Innovation

Initio has been an I/O leader since its founding in 1994, providing the computer and networking markets with a family of innovative SCSI host adapters and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). Since then, the company has established itself in North America, Europe and the Asia/Pacific region as an innovative leader in SCSI solutions, providing some of the fastest data throughput in the computer and networking industries.  Initio entered the IEEE 1394 I/O market in 2000, with its first fully functional single-chip controllers and has since expanded its IEEE 1394 line for a broad range of storage and consumer applications.  As part of its aggressive IEEE 1394 effort, Initio in 2001 entered into an alliance with NEC Corporation and its semiconductor affiliate in the United States, NEC Electronics Inc., to co-develop IEEE 1394 technology. Initio Corp. (www.initio.com) is a privately held maker of input/output solutions for the information-technology industry.  Founded in 1994, Initio is based in San Jose, Calif.
