INIC-162x SATA Drivers
(1620/1622/1623)

Macintosh OS 10.2.x/10.3.x/10.4.x/10.5.x support is built into the Macintosh BIOS on the SATA board, so there are no drivers for you to install.

For Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003 support, you will also need this Windows Installer for the RAID drivers and utility in addition to the PC RAID BIOS on the SATA board.  For adapters based on the INIC-1623 SATA host chipset and our
SATA-E and SATA-I host adaptors use the following Windows drivers:

There are 2 different ASIC's used on our SATA cards. The INIC-1623T and the INIC-1623TA2, and they use different drivers. Please check the ASIC model number on your card before you download any drivers.

Initio SCSI Adapters for Macintosh

Please Note:
Beginning in late March 2003 all Initio SCSI cards come with PC and OS 10 firmware on them. If you are running OS 9 with one of these cards you will have to flash the firmware on the card so it will work under OS 9. You can download the OS 9 firmware here

Apple G5 Users Please Note:
Apple has three G5 models, the 1.6 GHz, 1.8 GHz and 2GHz.
In our testing we have found that only our MilesU2W will work in these machines, the Bluenote and Miles are not compatible with the PCI-X slots used in the new G5.

How To Update the Firmware Mac SCSI Adapters

  1. Download the current versions of the SmartSCSI and SIM file for your respective adapter
  2. Next unStuff both files to the desktop
  3. Run the SmartSCSI application and select Setup/1st card configuration. The title bar on the next screen will list the version of the currently installed firmware
  4. Click on the button called Update Firmware near the bottom of the screen
  5. After about 10 seconds you will get a message that the update was successful
  6. Now click on the Load Defaults button and close all windows. Reboot the machine

Sometimes after you update the firmware, the system will refuse to boot up correctly.

If you own an old world machine (7500 to Beige G3) you will want to zap the PRAM to correct this. Click here to find out how!

If you own a Blue & White G3 or G4 you will want to boot into Open Firmware and reset the hardware configuration. Instructions here!

The Beige G3 is NOT supported under OS X so we do NOT support this configuration with our adapters. We are receiving many reports that the machine will not boot once the firmware is installed.

Hardware compatibility issues, Installing on a PowerBook G3, an original Power Macintosh G3, or an iMac --- If you install Mac OS 10 on a PowerBook G3 Series computer that does not have USB, an original Power Macintosh G3 (Beige), or a Rev. A, Rev. B, Rev. C, or Rev. D iMac, and the hard disk is larger than 8 GB with more than one partition, be sure to select a destination partition for Mac OS 10 that is completely within the first 8 GB of the disk.

~~~
OS 10.xx drivers are now available for all three of our adapters. They are all in one file so when you unStuff the file just go in the folder you need. These new versions of the firmware support the new 10.2 release of Mac OS and previous versions down to 8.1.
In order for you to run OS 10 and our adapters you MUST be running one of the approved machines. You can view the approved list HERE. If your machine is not listed then it will not work and we do not support it.
Bluenote (INI-9090U-MAC)
Bluenote is not OS X.4.x compatible.
Apple G5 Users Please Note:
Apple has three G5 models, the 1.6 GHz, 1.8 GHz and 2GHz.
In our testing we have found that only our MilesU2W will work in these machines, as the Bluenote and Miles are not compatible with the PCI-X slots used in the new G5.
OS 8-9 Firmware Files
SIM v1.13 -- SmartSCSI v1.06
OS 10.2.x/OS 10.3.x Firmware - for revision F models only!
There is no OS X support for the revision E boards.
To find out if you have a revision E board you must pull the card out and look at the back of it, in the lower left hand corner you will find the revision letter.
You must flash the firmware from OS 9.xx. Please contact Tech Support if you have any trouble with this update.
MilesU2W (INI-A100U2W-MAC)
Apple G5 Users Please Note:
The MilesU2W DOES work on G5 machines with the following firmware installed on the card. You MUST flash the MilesU2W in a G3 or G4 machine first and then after you flash it, just install it in the G5.
G5 Firmware for OS 10.3.x/OS 10.4.x
OS 8-9 Firmware Files
SIM v1.05 - This is the current firmware for OS 8.x and 9.x
Beta SIM v1.06 - use this if you are running OS 8.x or 9.x AND SoftRAID AND you have a Seagate Cheetah hard drive. This fixes a hang issue when SoftRAID scans the bus with this configuration.
SmartSCSI v1.06 - This is the utility to actually flash the above SIM files onto your card. This runs in OS 8.x or 9.x.
Beginning in late March 2003 all Initio SCSI cards come with PC and OS 10 firmware on them. If you are running OS 9 with one of these cards you will have to flash the firmware on the card so it will work under OS 9. You can download the OS 9 firmware here
OS 10.2.x and 10.3 Firmware
You must flash the firmware from OS 9.xx. Please contact Tech Support if you have any trouble with this update.
OS X.4 Tiger Firmware
You must flash the firmware from OS 9.xx.
This firmware will get your MilesU2W to be recognized and working again under OS X.4 Tiger. It works on G3, G4 and G5 machines.
BackFlash your MilesU2W, this will restore your firmware to the original version. Use this if you have trouble with the OS 10 firmware OR if you just want to go back to firmware v1.05. This must be run from OS 9.xx, it will not work under OS 10.
